Forget: the 7-Year-Itch rule that states “the average homeowner moves once every seven years.”   Remember:  the average homeowner will probably need you once, maybe twice in their lifetime.    Build your marqeting microcosm and make your marq.

Social media are a valuable tool misunderstood and, in many cases, misused in all business arenas. In the real estate realm, there are proper and effective ways to market your properties using social media.

There’s a nice article today published by RISMedia that lays out some fundamental rules for doing this. The six-point checklist is as follows:

1. Select your tools
2. Make the home the star
3. List the home on Facebook Marketplace
4. Cast a lure
5. What makes it special?
6. Remember “strategy, strategy, strategy”

Perhaps the most important point here is #2…”Make the home the star.”

Always remember that the home is the focal point, not the agent. The real estate pro matters because of the presentation of the property. This can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the effort made on the presentation.

When using social media to market your property, avoid salespeak, stick to the facts and what makes the property most appealing…and make your marq.

While I don’t totally agree with the above statement, it does bring to light an important point.   Slogans aren’t taken to heart like they used to be…because too often they’re just words.

Words designed to make that person or business appear to be the best…or among the best.

Words that only matter if there is substance behind them.  When words are just words representing surface purposes, chances are neither the business nor the sole proprietor are providing the substance that gives those words lasting meaning.

Two of the most common ones in real estate are “Dream Team” and “Your Realtor for Life.”

Have you checked your marketing slogan lately?   Is it working for you?   Is it a slogan you truly believe in?   Create a slogan you can truly believe in (I can help) and you will feel naturally motivated to build on it…and make your marq.
